Heights spikers fourth at own invite

They wanted more. And who could blame them. Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team settled for fourth place at its own invite last Saturday. The Vanguards reached the semifinals, but lost to Dodgeville, 25-23, 25-21.

Soccer Vanguards split two

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer slipped to fourth place in the 10-team Capitol Conference with a loss to Lake Mills and a win over Lakeside Lutheran last week. The Vanguards are now 3-2 in the conference. The Vanguards fell to Lake Mills, 3-2, on Sept. 24, in a game played at Breese Stevens Field.

With upcoming Badger North Conference matches against Waunakee and Mount Horeb looming on the schedule, Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team couldn’t be blamed for peeking ahead. Just don’t mention that to Sauk Prairie coach Drew Kornish and his senior-heavy squad.

Heights gets back on track

The folks at Wisconsin Heights aren’t sure about school records. This much is certain, though: what the Vanguards did last Friday bordered on remarkable. Quarterback Ozur Kepler threw seven touchdown passes, including four to wide receiver Ace Ayers. That remarkable duo helped the Vanguards roll past host Sturgeon Bay, 74-38.

DeForest runs away from Eagles

Sauk Prairie’s football team had designs on a happy Homecoming last Friday. Mighty DeForest, ranked eighth in the state in Division 2, had other ideas. Fueled by a 21-point outburst in the third quarter and a 35-point second half, the visiting Norskies pulled away from Sauk Prairie and cruised to a 52-13 win.

Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team has always challenged itself against elite competition in star-studded tournaments. This year has been no different, and last Saturday the Vanguards went to the 17-team Middleton Invite.

Heights soccer splits

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer team downed Cambridge/Deerfield United, 5-3, on Sept. 17. The Vanguards improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Capitol Conference. The win puts Heights/Barneveld one game behind conference leaders Lodi and Sugar River.

Christian Patzka shined again. But it wasn’t enough to carry the Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld cross country team. The Vanguards finished fifth out of seven teams at the Mount Horeb Invite last Saturday.

Sauk Prairie’s boys shine at Badger Challenge

WATERTOWN — Different approach, same results summed up the performance of Sauk Prairie’s boys cross country team at the annual Badger Conference Challenge hosted by Watertown on Sept. 17 The Eagles finished second overall and placed first out of eight teams in the Badger North Conference on the Watertown High School course.
