Letter: Stealing election signs is affront to fair elections

April 7 is election day. As usual, there are some citizens who believe the best way to help their candidates is stealing the yard signs of opponents.

Sadly and ironically, their candidates might be retired deputy sheriffs. How does that fit with law and order?

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) recently posted on social media that “Muslims don’t belong in American society.”

Similarly, in February, Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) wrote on X: "If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one."

Kindness is always good. Even kindness to an ungrateful relative or a grumpy server, kindness always makes the world a slightly better place. I had a chance to play a small part in the grand web of kindness the other day. I heard a loud bang on the sliding door and I thought, "Oh, no!  That doesn't sound good!"

Letter: We once led, but now we’ve fallen backward

In the mid 1960’s (I was in my mid 20’s) I served two years in the Peace Corps in Malaysia. Malaysians’ concept of what Americans were like was largely gleaned from movies: white, rich, spoiled, and of questionable morals.
