Bret Leighton Severson

Bret Leighton Severson, 52, of Hillsboro, passed away suddenly in his home Sunday, July 19th, 2026. Bret was born March 22nd, 1974, the son of Byron and Nanci (Griffin) Severson in Janesville, WI. Bret pursued his passion in agriculture for most of his life. He became a long-haul road trucker to be close to his family in the last years of his life. Bret loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating. 

Bret is survived by his his 4 daughters, Haili (Nathan) Yttri, Rosalie, Isabelle, and Aurora Severson; 4 grandchildren, William, Atlas, Waylon and Cynthia; parents, Nanci and Matthew Novy; grandmother, Doris Feivor; brother, Brook Severson; sister, Brea (Chad) Ruddy; step-sisters Sara (Aaron) White, Vanessa (Nathan) Stowell; step-brother, Mark Novy; special cousins, Jake (Jamie) Miller, Hank (Amanda) Miller, Niki Jones; godchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 

Bret is preceded in death by his father, Byron “Butch” Severson; brother, Brad William Crouse; grandparents & great-grandparents.  

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 11:00 am with visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of service at Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center with Rev. Tim Ward officiating.  Burial will follow in the Resting Green Cemetery in Ironton Township.
