Fern fronds are, in general, quite fragile. One fern species native to Wisconsin was given the name “fragile fern” because a portion of the frond (leaf) is so brittle, delicate, and is easily broken.

Artists can apply to be part of Craft Fair

Applications are being accepted for the Annual Spring Green Arts & Crafts Fair, which will be held this summer.

The Fair, which has been around for more than 50 years, focuses on jewelry, painting, wood, fine crafts/mixed media, glass, pottery, photography, graphics, sculpture and fiber.

Wisconsin had highest enrollment ever on Health Insurance Marketplace

Wisconsin has had the highest participation rate ever for individual health insurance HealthCare.gov.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services found that 306,470 state residents have signed up for the latest round of coverage. This surpasses last year’s record by more than 40,000 people.

The monthly meeting of the Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) occurred in two Prairie du Sac venues on Dec. 12. The theme was home-cooked leadership.

The day began with a visit to Culver’s Headquarters, where SCIL met with Craig Culver and Culver’s Vice President Rich Modeski.

Winter is officially here, and with that comes the potential for dangerous road conditions.

Snow, sleet and ice make it harder to control and stop your vehicle.

From Oct. 2023 to May 2024, winter weather contributed to more than 11,000 crashes in Wisconsin, resulting in nine fatalities and over 2,000 injuries.

 It was the Christmas holiday circa 1969 and our family had traveled from our home near Milwaukee to visit relatives on the farm, which six months later would become our permanent residence.

I had just turned 6 and my brother Kevin was 9. There was snow on the ground and we decided to go sledding.

Early winter is a great time to marvel at frost formation on vegetation. We can get by just calling the buildup of frozen water as ice if it falls as rain and freezes or frost if it comes from moisture in the air and goes directly to frost, or some mixture between.
