Leroy “Mike” Leonard Box, age 75, of Reedsburg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at his home.
Mike was born on May 6, 1951, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, the son of Claude M. and Ella M. (Jenkins) Box. He was a 1969 graduate of Weston High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 until 1972. On November 29, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sheila F. Rego in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown.
Mike was raised the youngest of four in Hillpoint. Following his military service, he returned home and worked at the family business, Ward’s Corners, as a mechanic and bus driver. Mike & Sheila raised their 5 kids in Hillpoint where he was a volunteer fireman and coached multiple sports. Mike went to work at Grede Foundries in Reedsburg, where he worked for 33 years as a DISA mechanic before retiring. Mike was an all-around handyman who could fix just about anything. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer. He was a fun loving family man known for his too tight hugs and sarcastic wit. Above all, he treasured time with his children and grandchildren, whether watching sporting events, spending time together, or simply enjoying their company.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sheila; his children, Michael (Stephanie) Box, Tracy (Cora) Box, Rebecca Wagner, Jennifer (David) Gawronski, and Amanda Box; his grandchildren: Colton, Jorja, Nolan, Lizabeth, Tyler (Erin), Madisyn (John), Alexandria, Austin, Casey, Evan, Jake (Jenna), Mary, Adam, Grace, and Mikayla; and his great-grandchildren, Julissa, Rhea, David, and Cybil. He is further survived by siblings: Barbara Krulitz, Diane Walker, Kevin (Pam) Rego, Shawn (Becky) Rego, Dan Rego, Kurt Rego, Kelly Rego, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Cyril and Betty Rego; his brother, Archie Box; his sister, Claudena Riley; his great granddaughter, Zephrya Millar; and his brother-in-law, John Walker.
Funeral services for Leroy “Mike” Box will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Bridget Cemetery, rural Cazenovia. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Veterans of Wisconsin.
