Cody's movie minute
Extraction Review
Netflix is one of the few places where you can find new movies coming out at the moment and their newest film Extraction has turned out to be quite the hit. But does the movie live up to the hype?
Extraction stars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a soldier for hire who is tasked with saving the son of a powerful Indian crime lord after he is kidnapped by a rival crime lord. The mission gets more and more dangerous as every minute passes, and Rake must try his best to get this kid out before time runs out.
If this sounds like a movie you have heard of or seen before, it’s because what this movie does not have going for it is masterful writing. It is a story similar to one told many times by action movies for quite some time now. The characters in the movie are equally unoriginal for the most part. Tyler Rake, the central protagonist, is essentially the same as many action heroes. He acts super cool, he is great at killing people, and is played by a likable actor with the muscles to back up the action. Many aspects of this movie are things you have seen a hundred times before if you are a fan of action movies. Though where this movie really stands above these similar action movies is, well, the action.
Extraction has some of the best action I have seen in a long time. The car chases are high octane, the shootouts are visceral, and the hand-to-hand combat is some of the best bare-knuckle brawls I have ever seen. All of the action was done incredibly well, and that is what most people watch action movies for. If you are looking for a fun and easy to watch a movie with great action and not much else, Extraction serves that purpose very well. And with how hectic and crazy everything else in the world is right now, a movie like this can really just help to serve as something to take your mind off everything else, at the very least. Extraction is available right now on Netflix.
Three and a half out of five stars.
