The future of the Sauk County Health Care Center remains a mystery. That mystery is in the hands of the Sauk County Board, which has the power to preserve the Center as a public facility or to sell it off to a private owner or to a large consortium of not-for-profit nursing homes.

Letter: Health Care Center is not that costly

The Board has said that our county nursing home is too expensive for the taxpayers of Sauk County.

But the property tax burden is very low. Of the $34 million from our property taxes for 2023, only $101,133 was spent on our county nursing home. That is less than one percent.

STANEK COLUMN: Bugged by heavy rain

Just keep telling yourself, “Someone always has it worse than you. Someone always has it worse than you.”

It’s the best some of us can do as we watch water levels rise and sump pumps work overtime. The lucky ones, like me, are keeping a close watch on their basements to check for storm water backup.
