Fair season is one of my favorite times of the year, and we have an amazing one here in Sauk County.

The future of the Sauk County Health Care Center remains a mystery. That mystery is in the hands of the Sauk County Board, which has the power to preserve the Center as a public facility or to sell it off to a private owner or to a large consortium of not-for-profit nursing homes.

The U.S. House July 10 passed the SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voting Eligibility) that requires proof of citizenship in order to vote in federal elections; 195 democracy-saving, illegal-alien loving, Democrats voted against the bill.

They must think we’re stupid!

I have been following just how much money Sauk County would receive from selling the Sauk county nursing home.

The Board has said that our county nursing home is too expensive for the taxpayers of Sauk County.

But the property tax burden is very low. Of the $34 million from our property taxes for 2023, only $101,133 was spent on our county nursing home. That is less than one percent.

Where can I find the words that will move the hearts of those whose minds are so solidly decided? How can we reach the people who represent us on the County Board? What pleas could possible persuade them not to sell the Sauk County Health Care Center?

Just keep telling yourself, “Someone always has it worse than you. Someone always has it worse than you.”

It’s the best some of us can do as we watch water levels rise and sump pumps work overtime. The lucky ones, like me, are keeping a close watch on their basements to check for storm water backup.
