The iconic “coldest in the nation” sign on Highway 14 in Lone Rock is popular with the community. It was rebuilt by Ray Hatfield, with the generous financial help of the community, in 2017 after it fell into disrepair. Originally erected in the early 1970s by the Lone Rock Lions Club, the sign on Highway 14 recognizes the day, January 30, 1951, when Lone Rock was the coldest spot in the country.
